I had some questions on the Alpina roundel such as used on say a shift knob or a steering wheel center....How does one distinguish the real deal vs a knock off? One comment I heard in the past was that the crankshaft representation has five throws....is this true?

One of them says made in the People's Republic of China, I forget which.

Be suspicious of roundels with a hammer and sickle instead of a crankshaft. Or the post-war EMW instead of BMW symbol.

Well, OK....but I am serious here because I have a number of roundels, for sure I have a couple of China knock-offs. Funny about the hammer and sickle though because I bought a couple of clear fuel filters for a bike project....made in Russia. A Baldwin product. Made me want to hide under my desk....Oh yeah, "former Commies" nothing to fear...! Tough to photograph but I will give it a try later.
