I have not personally tried this, but...

If you aren't finding Alpina airboxes at neighborhood garage sales, an aftermarket Weber airfilter with 90 degree mounts MIGHT fit around your stock booster. I am aware of one such part, available from International Auto parts (their p/n 62310). The following URL should take you to the pertinent catalog page:

http://www.international-auto.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=2492&posid=855889&noapp=1

Of course, IAP is a Fiat/Alfa supplier, so the version they sell is for dual - not triple - Webers. But, a little web searching might turn up a part appropriate for E9 applications.

Interesting part. Thanks for the idea.

And 2275xxx, thanks for your knowledge...

I am discovering IAP. They have nice stuff.
The 90° pipes look really good, but I am not sure if they would fit.

As you can see the Alpina pipe has a flat area, in order not to come too close to the brake booster.

I must confess that I prefer to drive without the Alpina airbox, as it removes too much of the addictive induction sound.

Whose car is the beautiful Polaris coupé on the pictures ?

I am very curious about the ignition distributor - and coil.

Is there a Mallory that can be used on our cars ?
Is it one of these fully adjustable distributors with two sets of points ?

We never see this in Europe.

But if you remove the Alpina airbox, in order to enjoy the sound, what airfilter do you then use? I have 3 K&N filters on top of the 45s, but that doesn´t give the carbs the cool, fresh air that they need.
I´m looking for a high performance airbox which sucks the air, via a snorkel, from below the battery or even below the generator. With manual steering I have more space as the servo pump is gone. An airfilter could be fitted at the entrance to the snorkel.

hello, the coupe is mine and thankyou for the comments

I am proud to say that my car is on the cover of the Boston BMW club magazine newsletter, you can read more at:

best regards

Duane (and my coupe is not a B2 Alpina, just a CS with some choice Alpina elements and theme).

You are absolutely right.

I have been experimenting a little and made partitions with sheet aluminium. Things improved a little.

But I agree, the best solution would be an airbox pulling air from below.
Race cars often had some sort of opening made in the front, left of the radiator. This is probably not something we would like to do to on our (road) cars...

Ooops, I was answering to pmansson of course.

Duane, thank you for the links.

Regarding your Mallory ignition distributor, do you know the reference ?
I have always dreamed about experimenting with an adjustable distributor.

I am also curious about the brakes. Are you using 272x28mm rotors ?

thanks for the tip Ed!

as I am about to go to triple 45s, that box could be an interesting solution/tweak
