Here's an easy one, can the alternator bracket be removed or does anything on the engine interfere with pulling the bolts? I will be replacing the alternator in the next few months with a new 80 amp and I want to clean things up when I am in there. Thanks.

Bracket

I thought that might be the case. When I'm in there I also plan on replacing those weeping PS hoses as well. Thanks.

Just wanna chime in about hoses. Have had to replace a few BMW and Porsche pressure hoses and decided to have Mesa Hose make up some hoses with screw on fittings as opposed to the factory compression/crimp style. Usually less expensive and way better quality than OEM.

Hoses

Phillip,

I have been there, that's a good idea. The other two hoses are no under pressure, the one that is isn't cheap I believe either. I just had them fit a 5/16 fuel hose to an old Mercedes fuel fitting to get rid of an air leak.

Is fuel hose compatible with the ATF? I thought you had to use a different hose material for power steering and break lines because the ATF or brekak fluid would attack the fuel line rubber.

Scott,

I had a mercedes fuel fitting repaired to accept a rubber fuel hose. It is for my 1960 190b Ponton sedan. The original steel line had been cut and I needed to connect the fuel filter with the steel line. It is a long term restoration that I am doing (7 years and counting).

Hey Chris, we should get together to commiserate over Mercs. I have a '68 108 chassis Crawford Estate that I just brought out of a 15 years (or so) slumber and am trying to remember what I did with all the resto parts I'd been collecting over the years. Gotta love the old MBZs, they're built like tanks.

sorry, non e9 content

Scott,

That material has been NLA for a long, long time, otherwise I would have done that already! :)

Actually, since the exterior is white-grey, I am want to go back to the original which was red leather. The only problem I have now is that I am toying with buying an early 2002 which will push the Ponton farther back on the to-do list. (Meaning this might be my last post if my wife finds out!)

I know what you mean; I almost bought another coupe last weekend off eBay. It was a 73 euro that a guy who lives a few blocks away was selling. It went for $10,800.00 and I could have afforded it but I couldn’t have afforded the divorce… Who ever got it got a good deal!
