Aluminum door CSL question

There are two mount points for the door handle mechanism inside an E9. There are two studs that hold the top of the mechanism, and a bracket with two threaded bosses that secure the bottom. There's a little u-shaped stamped steel bracket that holds the bottom of the mechanism and which is bolted to that bracket. The bracket itself is spot welded to the door and the ends are glued with some sort of body sealer. My question is, "was that bracket made from aluminum on an aluminum doored CSL? Obviously you can't weld aluminum to steel, and I wonder if they had the kinds of epoxies back in the early 70s that we have now for gluing metal parts together.

I have steel brackets, but no aluminum ones. Properly prepped and glued (using an industrial strength) epoxy I don't expect any problems but I'm curious nonetheless.

So what say the CSL cognoscenti? Anyone ever run in to this conundrum?
