My brotherinlaw just had the big bumpers on his 1974 2002 reduced, rather than replaced, by having the pistons in the bumper mounts drilled to let out the gas, then compressing the piston and re-securing it in the compressed position. He had to trim some rubber too. Seems to have reduced the extension by about 2". I didn't find this solution in the archives.

Has anyone tried this on a coupe?

Big bumper reduction on a--coupe--yes

have done the same for both front and rear on my '76 2002 about 8 years ago--it really makes a nice improvement. Must carefully trim the rubber spacer in the rear + bellows F & R--then butt glue the front ones but rears can be made to fit without gluing.

Yes--Mike from Monterey Bay/Seaside area searched and searched for a way to minimize his very fine late CS without having to do metal and paintwork--finally decided the trim job was best after a lot of discussion--with both Carl Nelson and yours truly, perhaps others. He did only the front--if it were I doing it-do both as you have a better visual balance in the end appearance. It's the only one I have known and will seriously consider same to diminish visual im$pact of the BB on a US spec 1974--and will recommend this step for one we are working on at La Jolla Ind. at present--with another BB possibly coming up soon.

Yep. Peter did that on my 74 CS. It does make a noticeable difference. Be careful on trimming the bellows. I don't think good ones are easy to find.

Hi Murray
How have you been? Its been way too long. Are you coming up next week?
My 2002 factory Turbo was accepted to the pretigious "The Quail A MotorSports Gathering"Quite the honor as they only accept 120 cars and it is sold out,so this will be the first year I don't go to Concorso
Anyways back to the bumpers.I did do the front and rear.It made a huge difference. The front is more noticable as it sticks out farther than the rear.I spent a lot of time cutting and putting the accordians back together so you can't tell where I cut them

What kind of glue for bellows rubber? Cut where?

Do you remember what kind of glue you used?
And where is the best place on the bellows to make the cut least noticeable, and how many "ribs" were cut off?
Thanks.
