I too am in the process of resurrecting the A/C in my CS.
What does the cloth in the "adapter manifold"(the piece between the heater and the evap housing) do? It looks like it would lay on top of the evaporator when the A/C was off.....
TIA

a/c question

do you mean the fabric lining to the adaptor which sits on top of the a/c unit, behind the vents on the centre console?

I don't know, but assumed it might have a sound-deadening effect. On mine, it was fixed (glued?) in place against the casing and wouldn't move around with the a/c on or off.

I think the duct cloth also serves two additional purposes:
1. insulation/condensation control.
2. gasket between duct, evaporator housing, and heater housing.

Take a look at the images at the end of heater box section on vranedom.com.

Ah... So this was a liner. Mine was just hanging on at one edge so I couldn't tell that it was supposed to be glued to the wall....
Thanks guys! It's these little tidbits of info that are only available from knowledgeable forum members that makes the forums so valuable.

I replaced mine and glued it in. I agree with the sound deadening/insulation idea. It shouldn't move at all and should be a tight fit against the heater/A/C.
