You can get a project for $25K and a nice one for $40K. $50K isn’t uncommon now. Just a few years ago you could get a project for under $10K. EAG has been setting th highwater mark on these for a while now, but private sales have gone up quite a bit in the last couple of years. The e24 M6 is catching up quick also...
 
I was watching that auction, too. I did not expect $52k. Was thinking more mid 30's. My cost metric is slipping. Or I am cheap. :D
 
That is a very nice car.

Clean, low mileage, unmodified e39 M5s are really starting to go up too. Glad I already have mine.
