Antenna

When I start up my car & drive, the antenna goes up even though the radio is turned off. Was that the factory set-up? What can be done to have it operate only when the radio is on?

What kind of radio? If new enough it will have an antenna power lead which I suspect yours doesn't unless the installer overlooked that. If vintage, it won't have an antenna lead so a switch was usually installed somewhere to control the antenna (my Becker from the original dealer put it on the steering column).
