I’m been working on putting car back on road, received a carb kit for Christmas ,yay , this engine not original got it from a e9 guy east bay, it’s been a long time but on installing these carbs, kit built for a e-3-e9 I notice an issue- see pics- it appears manifolds are different height. I seems front is too high. Is that possible. Anyway all information is appreciated

You are aware that the engine is tilted so it is higher in the front than the rear, right? I'll have to go to my shop to see if my carbs are set up the same way. It is possible that to overcome the engine tilt the two manifolds are different heights, and perhaps you have them reversed front to rear (??)

Hi thank you everyone for the pointers, anyone with carbs have manifold numbers, I’ve swapped them, in picture booster in wrong slot- main thought for me is as iwhen installing throttle linkage manifold not level touches fuel pump. Installing air cleaner front carb touches hood. Anyone else with webers ? I’m just mocking up and haven’t tried starting. Just seems off but maybe it’s just me….

Ok - real own lists two part numbers front manifold rear manifold- swapping manifold has same effect. Anyone got manifolds for sale?clearly it’s run with the solexes - just a bit of anxiety.. thank you again for all comments

Weber carbs touching hood and firewall is a known issue
The Weber carbs don't touch the hood and firewall, but a stock air cleaner will. You can mitigate those problems by:

- Not using JAM adapters to connect the Webers to the stock air cleaner. The JAM adapters bias the air cleaner rearward. Other types of adapters are discussed in this thread: https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/wtb-weber-adapters-for-stock-air-cleaner.34626/
- Using thin heat isolators between the carbs and manifolds to drop the carbs a bit.

Are you certain you have BOTH manifolds? Or do you have two of the same number?

I have two of the same number which I see is listed as a rear- getting lots of info however this set up with solexes is lower than with webers I’m looking for a front manifold with number listed on real own and original orange parts book which I have- thanks on to another question see pictures are the raised emblems original? These have been in storage 40 years - one cpiller emblem different - 3 are raised letter one is not and different - thanks again everyone - I’d like the get it close to original carbs excepted so I’ll have a great driver.

The two raised letter ones in the foreground of the photo above are original, as is the brass/bronze cloisonné C-pillar emblems. Not sure if it is possible to find an original cloisonné replacement.

If you look at the vacuum ports on the end of your manifolds you will see one small port and one large port. Move the rear manifold to the front with the large brake booster fitting, yours is now on the rear, that is your problem. The carbs are Zeniths, not Solex, and they sit a bit lower than Webers.
