I'm thinking of attending LeMans Classic next month. Anyone else here on the forum going? For those of you who've gone in the past, I'd be interested to know which is your favorite grandstand or vantage point.

Great atmosphere, somewhat more relaxed than the Le Mans 24hr. Petrolhead nirvana walking around the paddocks, you can get quite engrossed in the cars from the particular era that excites you. You can get up and close to the cars, mechanics and drivers in the paddocks.

Arnage/Indianapolis at night, cars coming through the fast wooded section into a slower left hander, quick mad burst then onto the brakes for the right hander on full throttle down to Porsche Curves. You are quite close to the circuit here and can be quite a visceral experience.

I've sat at Mulsanne corner early in the morning half asleep just watching the cars brake hard at the end of Mulsanne turn right and accelerate away. Great to hear them on throttle down the Mulsanne and then have to brake hard for the corner, then blast away towards Indianapolis. Good vantage point and not too busy.

Dunlop Chicane/Esses on the inside of the circuit as the sun rises, again quite close to the action in places, quite surreal when you are tired watching old cars battling it out! (and not too far to walk in the early morning after a couple hours sleep)

Pit straight in the Grandstands in the middle of the night, easy access back and forth to your tent, sit half asleep/half awake watching the action and activity in the pit garages.

The Mulsanne chicanes are pleasant to watch by walking through the woods, but often marshalls stopping you from getting there.

If you decide to go you will have a fabulous time.

You won't be able to pre-order a paddock pass now and they are not selling them at the event (although you may be able to buy one from an event organiser type place at an inflated price). It is a particular highlight to walk around the grouped era paddocks. Nevertheless, you might be able to find someone selling one at the event, or even lend you one for a few hours.

You've probably noted there are several e9's racing, and what sounds like a good mix of cars.

Thanks JP,

I've got friends in several club areas who offered me a site with tent.
Website says I can still order a ticket plus paddock pass. Maybe the website is wrong (typical for the French).

Writeup of good vantage points is GREATLY appreciated!

Good tip to call some of the travel tour specialists as I think I might like to have a real bed/shower over the tent. I camp at Goodwood Revival and the facilities are pretty horrible. Last time the shower room floors were flooded and therre was only scalding hot water available. We were all coming out of the showers looking like lobsters with muddy feet.

I am hoping to go to help friends racing with GT40 and 935 K3 and to prepare my participation next year but still have no had time for planning the trip.
Would like to go with a classic but still need to have them checked out.
My CS should be ready this month, don' t know if it leaves me enough time to do the TÜV and having the car running reliable for a 1300 km trip one way, i might end up going there with my daily driver not to miss the event with the bonnet open somewhere...
Lets stay tuned.
Planing to go there with the E9?
Best regards
Luc

All set for the Classic

Thanks again for your advice and links.
I'm all set for camping as well as tickets.
Paddock pass wasn't available via internet, but I'm working on getting some press credentials ... which may resolve that problem.

The only bad think is that I don't have a classic to drive to the event.

For anyone interested in CSL`s it might be a treat. As there are 5 CSL`s entered, we have 2 cars coming from England and there are 2 more from the USA.
Both of the `73 works cars that raced at Le Mans wil be there, plus two of the Le Mans `76 Group 5 CSL`s, Gosser Beer & FAltz Alpina.

The owner of the shop here in Maine that service my pre-war cars is going, he's working on a pit crew for one of his clients.
