Anyone familiar with the Little Garage in Huntington NY?
I'm trying to buy an E9 contingent on it passing a PPI.
The seller wants to use this shop to do the inspection.

Any advice/opinions about their capability to do a thorough E9 PPI is much appreciated.

How to determine fair market value of a rust free '73 driver quality 3.0CS?

And any opinions on what valuation guide is most appropriate (NADA, Sportscarmarket.com, Collectorcarmarket.com, etc.)!

When I bought mine the guides were not very useful. There are too few cars and their condition varies so much that you have to become familiar with valuations yourself. The board here has helped anybody that asked and a few that didn't ask. Murray Fowler is the final arbiter based on mileage and seniority claims, I am sure he can opine.

Values of E-9--reliable sources

As stated by Arde--the conventional printed sources are doubtful as a valuation reference. Actually i do NOT view them as a good or reliable resource for establishing value of an E-9 in a private transaction. Private transactions simply do not show up in the reporting included in the publications that are mentioned--they only include and report public sales. This is a subject that has been discussed ad infinitum on this board--and most comments made or volunteered are from owners whose experiences have been their own personal transaction--not based on long term nor covering a span of time or the activity of multiple experiences.

Reality--there are few members of this board who have had numerous experiences of locating and evaluating solid E-9 candidates. Upon selection it then entails correcting faults that are most often present as the result of passing through several owners. Corrections of mechanical and cosmetic conditions to the extent possible and reasonable in cost that will present a safe, reliable and road worthy driver plus one that puts its best cosmetic foot forward. Generally this undertaking would not include body and paint work as one requiring that degree of attention would not initially meet the basic standards of a solid candidate.

There are numerous variables that enter into the question you pose but i would be willing to discuss some factors that do enter into the steps i have taken to arrive at values of the score or so E-9's that I have personally handled for sellers and in turn found new homes for their Coupes.

BTW--the one contact I had several years ago with "The Little Garage" was positive--however--time has passed and i have no idea of their present familiarity with Coupes. My own garage here in SoCal has 38+ years of mechanical experiences with Coupes, 2002's and Bavarias--but as is the case with many familiar in the mechanical--even they are less knowledge of the myriad of cosmetic details that really make our Coupes so special.

Your potential purchase

How about a pic without letting the masses know its whereabouts. Maybe you could crop the pictures to remain anonymous. Just curious. Note, I already own an e9 & am not looking for a trade-in or a second one.

sure, pics shortly

The seller doesn't have any decent pics. I will see the cars this weekend and will take extensive pictures of all the critical E9 areas ... and then post here. BTW, the price on these cars are very firm. Both sellers don't need the money and I don't think they're highly motivated to sell (which is why the cars haven't shown up on CL or other venues).

The 2010 edition of the Sports Car Market Price Guide lists '72 - '74 BMW 3.0 CS as $8,900 - $15,200.

My thoughts on this:

- That's a very wide range!
- In the real world, those numbers would apply to "driver grade" coupes. A well-restored or highly original e9 would certainly fetch more than $15,200.

How to determine fair market value of a rust free '73 driver quality 3.0CS?

Honestly, we can look at your photos, and we can offer opinions. But in the end, there is no precise answer. #1 without touching a car, it is impossible to really assess its condition. #2 if the seller is firm at $X, and you want that specific car, then if $X is above "market", so what? Buying an e9 is not a rational decision, so why should e9 pricing be rational?

Hi John,

I am familiar with The Little Garage. I know the owner Matt Meng.

I have used them on occasion for my e9, and previously for my 2002.

For details that may help your circumstances, pm or call me at 917-923-0067.
