So the little pot metal tongue of the fuse box door latch broke off tonight, right at the tip where it hooks onto the dash support. Won't stay closed, does anyone have one of these? It's the push type, even if in not perfect condish I'd take it and try to remove what I need. I have JB Weld on the broken pieces now so I can shut it temporarily but am not optimistic it will hold. Thanks.

Try Airhead VW. Retailers like CSI buy the fuse boxes from Airhead. Same as BMW and very inexpensive.
Thanks
Harry

I have had to smash-close my hood hinge/fuse box door for a year now. I guess I will soon be investigating a new or remanufactured hook, NOT made of that pot metal. But then again it has lasted 46 years, so I would call that durable, just not serviceable.
Wondering about a bungee cord that would take the door up to flush with the rest of the under panel. Hmmm

Thanks Harry but I am looking for the latch for the access door to the fuse box and hood latch handle, not the actual fuse box cover.

I made the critical mistake of not pressing the button in while closing the door then releasing, I blame wine.

Man, If I blamed wine for all the things I should blame on wine, well, then, this could be embarrassing.:p.
BTW, I wonder if a new hook could be fashioned out of aluminum, perhaps?
Is the tongue replaceable if dissasembled? I havent investigated yet.

Almost positive I have one. Will have to search. Is it the piece on the dash panel or on the door?

Here you go :

I thought you needed the receiver pot metal bracket.

The receiver is actually made of steel. On both of my e9’s anyway. I think the glove box receiver is pot metal though.

I don't know how strong it is, but there are solder products available on the internet for soldering pot metal. It is not cheap and should be worth investigating. Here is one product I just googled by typing in pot metal solder. It is in the $50 range and they advertise it for soldering white metal Could be a god send especially for repairing tail light bezels for chroming
Super Alloy 1 Multi-Metal and Pot Metal Solder

That is cool stuff

Yep that's it, I wonder if that tongue is replaceable? I'll investigate tomorrow after the JB Weld is dry
Yes, it's replaceable & i think it pretty simple part to reproduce from peace of aluminium or other metal by any skilled e9'er - couple months ago i disassembled mine, because bar that holds tongue was bent & sometimes tongue stuck in final opened position.
The only tricky part is spring inside (but after couple minutes i think anyone will figure out).
If you decide to use your own by just replacing tongue & will need theoretical help - let me know, i will try to make a tutorial.
