I'm interested in a yellow e9 that's for sale in Wirtz, VA but am all the way out in California. By chance, is there anyone with e9 experience in the neighborhood who might be willing to stop by and take a look for me?

Wirtz VA is close to the middle of nowhere.
I can say that as a Virginia native. It is near
Roanoke, which is actually an area covered by the BMWCCA Tarheel
Chapter. Bavman, who sells parts on this site is a Tarheel member and he may have some ideas. You could also check the Tarheel site and contact one of their officers. Joella Johns is one of the officers and lives in Roanoke area.

It has been listed for a long time as a 2800CSi with an Automatic...

It could be one of two 3.0CSi Autos ... Hidden in west Virginia I dont think so.

1971 BMW 2800CSI near perfect condition. Originally CA car. 1 of only 500 brought to this country. It has a bit over 90K miles. It has an upgraded stereo with amp and cd player in the trunk. It has a Beautiful wood aluminum Nardi steering wheel. ( I have the original )

Location: Burnt Chimney

It's always your best bet to get some photos of the car (especially in the engine compartment & strut tower area) from the owner and post them here. Without anyone even driving 1 mile we may be able to tell you an awful lot about the car. I don’t know why anyone from California would want to buy an northeast car but occasionally a nice one does turn up over here but it’s usually originally from the west coast. ~ John Buchtenkirch

Yup, that was the one. Buy it now was 16k. I'm pretty surprised that it ended early since I just received an email from the seller this afternoon that made it sound available. I'm always a little reluctant to post pictures of what I think may be a clean coupe because I'm worry that someone will beat me to it! Has happened before.

Anyway, thanks for the tips guys. Any opinions regarding condition based on the very limited photos? The seller (out of state) said he's storing it at his father's house and won't be able to take more photos for a while. (Scam?)

Well, whenever I see a black engine bay that was originally blue, I have to wonder what is being hidden. And there are no shots of the fender seams up front either. Just like the two that are in Ventura and Irvine that keep showing up after being sold time and again. Buyers seem to back out after seeing in the flesh.

My exact thoughts, most likely they are hiding something with undercoating or they haven’t got a clue  when it comes to restoring a coupe. Both are good enough reasons to look for another car . ~ John Buchtenkirch

The unshown fender seams are a good call as just a slight bit of rust at the top of the seam could be the tip of an iceberg of corrosion underneath

Coupe

My friend Mike Pugh looked at and drove that 2800CS last week. He said the car is very nice and solid, it runs and drives well. The owner was asking $18000.000 but has dropped to $16000.00. The car is being stored at his fathers house. The only negative is the color Dakar Yellow, the car is an auto but that can be easily remedied. Mike would likely be willing to talk to you, I'll be glad to ask. He said if he were in the market he would by this coupe.

I live in Roanoke. Look on an map and you'll see how close I am to this car. I am new to e9's but I have been a auto mechanic/technician my entire adult life and have done a few restorations. I'd like to think I know what I'm doing when it come to checking out a potential buy.

If you are interested, PM me. I would like to see the car anyway and explain to the owner that there never was such a thing as a 2800CSI as he claims it is.
