Don't worry, I am not selling the e9. One of my e24s is rusting out and the M Coupes are in that window (i.e. major depreciation done - how about $57K down to $34K in 2 years - but relatively low miles - i.e. easy to find with <20K). I wondered if anyone on board had one. I drove one and it was a hoot.

I wanted and test drove a few MCoupes when they were hot and my general impression was similar...HOOT!

As I did not purchase one...the trouble with my experience might be similar to owning and driving a Porsche 914-6 in that the engine noise (being so loud) meant that anything over 100 miles of driving would greatly tire one of driving it further...

Just my opinion of an otherwise fine speedster!

Not an e86 but the real M Coupé and very rare. Mine has the same s54 engine in it like the e86. Either you love or you hate it. I love it... ;-)

I thought the S54 rather driver tiring...as stated above otherwise a fabulous car I just drive way way too much to use it as a DD...

Well it's a fun car. It's really not made for long distances. The range with a tank full is ridiculous, specially when your driving it >220 km/h it might last for only 300 km. The seats are to short for a >180 cm person, so after 400 km the pain in your right leg and ass will definitely make hell out of the trip.

But drive it on a sunday morning up the swiss alps and you won't get the smile out your of face. The sound of the engine >5000 rpm is simply addictive...

The american version of the 1. series (1998-2000) had an 240 hp engine (euro 321 hp), which i have no experience with. The s54 is fantastic, but you have to handle it carefully, since the engine needs the right temperature before you can put spurs to it. Otherwise the engine will blow up in your face. It's said, that the weakness of this engine is the oilpump and the connecting rod bearing shells.

Cheers, Jose

I fully agree, and was most of the reason I was interested in the first place..oh and the hatchback design ... making ingress/egress easier for my canine passenger.

Cheers!
