I'm pretty far along in my 5 speed conversion. What do the manual cars have in place of the kick-down switch? Is there a stopper there instead?

I took it out and didn't put anything in its place, since it doesn't penetrate the firewall or floor. I suppose my pedal could be bottoming on the carb linkage rather than against the kickdown switch, but I don't hammer it that hard and haven't had any difficulty from it in five-plus years.

But come to think of it, I should check just what the pedal travel limit is in this configuration. The answer may be surprising, or not.

I just found a great solution for this. I pulled the button off of the top of the kickdown switch, and the spring popped out. Put the button back on... and now it stays in the depressed position and acts as a stop.
