Hi,

What can the reasons be that the converter is wetted by transmission oil?.
It leaks a lot.

The gearbox has been dismantled from the engine and I could not see that there had been oil on the converter before.

Auto Trans Leaks

Tony,

You didn't say how much or fast the leak is....

1. Bad front trans seal... usually drips first but can go all at once.. see item2.

2. Pump, if it starts to go it gets loose and causes number 1.

3. Converter cracks... usually around the mounting tabs, but could develop anywhere. Should be obvious though.

Unless you've checked the more easier items... fill tube o-ring, cracked lines, anything electrical like the reverse switch and you know that's not the item causing the leak..... you're looking at pulling the trans for a closer inspection.

Hope this helps.

It leaks fast and much but the gears works fine when I tested to drive.
Can it be the converter or pump then?

Is the front seal the only way in to the converter?

Auto trans leak continued

Fast would likey mean 1 or 2 on the list, meaning the front of the trans not the converter. The trans will continue to work unless it falls short of a quart, then things go from bad to worse with internal damage.

The only other thing to try is to loosen the converter and turn it to see what position it might be leaking in; if it has a crack. Since you're leaking a lot, it's likely the front seal and not the converter.

Unfortunately the greatest part of a reseal is removal and reinstall labor of the trans itself.
