Dear All,

Please could you advise according BMW my VIN is for a 3.0 CS automatic.
But my gearbox is a HP 3-HP-20 not a BW. what are the differences between the 2?

Best regards,
Nico

I know there are two type of transmissions ZF and Borg warner, however the wiring are different because the electrical gear selector is different and the torque converter.
They both are the same size and fitment is the same

Hi, another easy way to see what transmission you have on your car is to see where the electric gear selector is located, if it is located on the transmission shifter you have a Borg Warner and if it is on the back end of transmission then you have a ZF

Hi Autowerks,
I have a ZF as it is clearly mentioned on te tag.
My question is only what are the differences and does it harm in any way for a 3.0 engine?
As officially a BW should be used.
Regards,
Nico

Nico, Chris knows more about this stuff but your coupe could've been built with a ZF transmission, it will not harm your engine.
I actually Like ZF better, it shifts smoother.
The difference, the cooler lines to radiator are in a different place, the wiring to the electric gear selector are different and the dip stick .
There are plenty of both around, my suggestion is to stay with ZF if you would ever need another transmission, so you do not have to do bunch of extra work.
Mr. sfdon has them.
