I thought I saved the thread on this but cannot find it. I am installing new zinc axle washers. While doing it I thought I should install new bolts. What is this bolt called? And what is the mm?

You mean the castle nut? If so it's M14 x 1.5. Behind that I put a small washer so as to not destroy the thin yellow zinc of the bushing washer. W&N has the castle nut, I don't think I could find it stateside in yellow zinc. Stainless cotter pins from Ace Hardware.

This reminded me - be careful with those, they may not be thin enough for the crown to reach the hole in the rod for the cotter pin when tightening. I think that's why I had to get them from W&N. Maybe the off the shelf ones will fit on yours but they didn't work for mine. Worth a shot I suppose.

They don’t work do they? You end up slotting the hole or just using Nylock like we do.

Anyone remember what the size of the bolt is? I have the other one but I’m too lazy right now to go find it.

@tdgray: I'm guessing you're after the NUT, not a "bolt"? See image, part#3 i think you're after?

fyi wobdog's amazon link also gives the dimension:

M14 x 1.5mm

But pay attention, the amazon link ones are made of very weak steel type, just ISO grade 4.8, which is almost nowhere used.
(for US people, an SAE grade 2 bolt). ISO 8.8 / SAE Grade 5 is a standard nut , and for suspension stuff sometimes BMW even specifies 10.9. or 12.9

Realoem.com for my E9 doesn't specify the grade, so ISO 8.8 / SAE grade 5 should be OK :

Sorry Erik… was mixing my thoughts… was actually thinking of the bolt that goes through the engine subframe. One I had to hack out… the other is fine.

I’ll dig it up.

Pardon the squishy brain moment.
