Bad Luck

Unfortunately, I had a triple whammy of bad luck today: I was mounting my Alpinas and foolishly used the designated jack point with the original jack. That was mistake as I bent some of the metal where the outer rocker folds into the middle (inner) rocker; I then borrowed a proper jack from my neighbor and after consulting the board, jacked the car on the rear subframe. For my effort, I discovered that the the factory lugs don't work on my closed lug Alpinas. And finally, glancing over the car I saw that someone had opened their door on my driver's side door and left a small indentation right on the swage (?) line, Ugghh!

Does anyone know what lug nuts are required for closed lug alpinas?

thanks,

Walter

I take the chrome version and knock off the cap- then a little grind.

I am going to autozone to see if they have any that will work. If not, Don, I will try your idea.

thanks,

Walt

You can also find a "Paintless Dent Removal" guy to take out the ding. If the paint isn't chipped, it usually costs around $50-60 and can look quite nice.

+1 - if it is the right type of dent they can be removed, I had 2 done recently - one on top of passenger fender (dropped wrench or something heavy from PO) and on the hood. Poof - both gone without a trace. The guy told me the heavier gauge steel actually is better for this technique than today's tin foil body panels.

for std. e3 / e9 / 2002 lugnuts (non chrome or nickel finished) check out isettaguy on ebay. i didn't see any listed on ebay but he did have some for $10 / set ... but email him at Werner Schwark <[email protected]> he has had them on ebay for a while.

i bought some of the nickel ones from Coupeking.

Gents,

Thanks on all the advice. I went to autozone this morning and found lug nuts that should work (I haven't mounted them because they only had three; ordered the rest).

The ding is right on the crease, which scares me, but it is only about an inch and half long. Fortunately, there was no breaking or scratching of the paint. I will look into a paintless dent removal guy.

thanks again,

Walter
