Anyone had this problem with broken cover on the balljoint which is "permanently" fixed on wishbone?

It seems that the cover is twisted apart due to the upper part of the cover is stucked and therefore twisted with the angle of steering.
Identical on both wishbones.

This car has been stored in a garage since 1980 waiting to renovated.

The joints are in good condition and was stilled filled with grease.

I'm thinking of finding a replacement for the cover. A similar cover from another balljoint (another car...) with the size:

Lower dia = 34mm
Upper dia = 16mm
Height = 20mm

Anyone with experience or other thoughts about my idea?

On the other hand, it's possible to buy two new wishbones, but that would be rather expensive covers.

Best regards
Stefan

Just my opinion, but in as much as you already have removed the wishbone it might not be a bad idea to replace the entire assembly, especially if the car has been sitting since 1980. My thoughts are that once the car is road worthy you will be enjoying some spirited driving and knowing you have new ball joint assemblies/wishbones will not have you wondering, as you enter a turn at extra legal speeds, "should I have replaced those things?".

I know where to get 'em

BMP Design of Tyler Texas has them in two sizes. Red, urethane, flexible and useful. I have used them on my 2002s and 3.0CS.

Though usually by the time the cover is torn, the joint is well on its way.
