Three years ago I stumbled across this 72' CSL hidden away in the mountains of Santa Cruz. After 14 years of storage, with mice & spiders as her only visitors,I rescued her from her absentee owner. He agreed to let me take her home and for a small fee I agreed to replace the essentials and get her back in shape. Once I had her home I realized what a complete original car it was. After going through the car & getting it back on the road I was hooked! I couldn't let this car go back up to the hills to be neglected. I have kept it my possession for the last three years hinting to the owner every couple of months that he needs to sell it. Last Thursday he agreed!

So here is my first post. After lurking on this site for the last four years I finally have something to share. Here are some pics of this very original fjord CSL with 112,000 kilometers. I have been collecting the needed parts for her restoration for the past couple years in anticipation of this day. This winter will be a busy one! More pics to follow

Congrats Terry!

I am glad it came through. You have been very patient and you will give this the home it deserves.

That being said there is no time to waste and I expect it to debut at concorso........don't let us down!

Good luck

Shawn

The "CSIL" badge was on the car when it was imported from Italy in 1984. It is not original and appears to be made. The correct replacement badge will be put on. The steering wheel is the original Alpina/CSL wheel that came on all early CSL's before switching to the Petri design. The leather is in need of a re-dye,but overall great condition for being thirty six years old

Hm, I thought the CSLs always had the Petri, but I am far from a CSL guru.

I also noticed the US side markers and lights. I guess the DOT unfortunately got to the car during import?

Very,very nice!
My only concern is why you are allowing a Mercedes to park in its spot in the driveway?

No one is happier than me to see Terry not only get this car, but share it with the board. Ironically this car was stored only 4 or 5 miles from my house. I've joked many times about not being able to sleep, thinking of all the cool cars and motorcycles rotting away in garages all over the world. This car is proof that such treasures still exist. I'm all for restoration and very clean cars, but there is nothing like an original car. It's as if the ghosts of all its previous drivers and passengers are whispering stories of years past, everywhere you look.

The other great thing (for me), is that T-Rock's new acquisition has re-stoked my love for my own car. It's been about 5 months since I've seen her as I had to put her in storage to complete some other projects. Last time I saw her she was covered and tucked safely in the corner, an Alfa Spider and a mid-seventies Ferarri as company. Next week I'll make the short drive up the East Bay to get her out of her slumber for the Monterey Historics weekend. Hopefully she'll forgive my newly acquired love for her younger sister, the M6.

Congratulations again Terry. You deserve that car.

It is stamped Alpina. The wheel is made by Momo. The steering wheel is off the car now having the leather stripped & restored.

Congrats Terry.I was wondering if you ever made it happen.I am totally jealous. Will you be at Laguna on Saturday in the Bmw corral, you could probably still get in?I would love to see it in person.
If not I would like to drive up and see it

WOW - what a keeper. Looks like someone took her to first and then second base (steering wheel and badge changes) otherwise she is still a virgin... Now hurry up and take her off the trailer and OUT of THE RAIN...

Cheers

That is the steering wheel that is on the car in a sales brochere I have. I'd really like to have one for my early car.

That's a great story! What's the VIN and do you know anything about the history of the car's prior owners?

Congratulations and you'll be busy this winter!

[. I have kept it my possession for the last three years hinting to the owner every couple of months that he needs to sell it. Last Thursday he agreed!

Three years of teasing and uncertainty, you definitely earned the rights to this beauty.congrats
great find, great car and great story.
