All,

BMW have consigned two cars from their museum’s reserve collection for sale at Bonhams inaugural Collectors’ Motor Cars auction at the Royal Mirage Hotel in Dubai this October. This is the first time that cars have ever become available from the official factory collection representing a truly unique opportunity for collectors.

Reserves are set, however given the money available in this neck of the world should be an exciting auction.

Clearly one to keep an eye on to see if records are set.

I cant beleive it that BMW would release these beauties.

Amazing - I echo your sentiments ... I can't believe they are selling these cars?

This is like selling your heirloom ... or what is going on???

Surely they are not in need of cash!!

Reserves

Not to be naive but are the reserves in US currency? Considering the location I would think that Bonhams would make an effort to be clear.

Regards,

Dave

The Bonhams website lists these two entries at $130-$170,000 estimate. That's definitely Dollars. They'd never have a catalogue estimate range of EUR130-170,000. In fact, I'm surprised it's as high as it is - they usually lowball these things to whip up interest. That's not to say they won't go for more than the estimates, but I'll say one thing - that CSL, whilst almost flawless, isn't completely perfect. I'd bet Yannick would have found issues. Their standard of paintwork is good, and probably in keeping with how the cars were originally painted, but it's not Pebble Beach. Equally, I remember finding a few details that I'd have tidied up on that car. They were small details, but none of you need fear that this represents a CSL holy grail. It's merely a very nicely restored Bat with good provenance. If the M1 is one that I saw in their collection, the mileage wasn't as low as all that - the Bonhams listing doesn't say, but they had a tidy white car in the cellar with around 50k kilometers. Tidy, but not flawless.

And the results are in.........

We are particularly grateful to BMW for placing their trust in us by selling two of their museum collection models, a BMW M1 ($264,000) and 3.0CSL 'Batmobile' ($218,400), both world-record prices for these cars."

Fantastic news.

Dubai

So the estimates were lowball after all. Wow. I think the provenance is what did it. Coming from the BMW museum is arguably better than having Elvis as a previous owner (he did own a 507).

Thanks for the info.
