Just thought that I would share what I discovered when I wanted to replace the positive battery cable. The cable BMW provides today is from a later model (e24?) and doesn't have the clamping bolt that has extra points to attach the 10 and 12 gauge red wires from the harness and alternator. Spence at Mesa Performance provided an e21 cable that has this feature, is a little longer, but is also slightly thinner.
I took the e24 cable, cut the red 10 gauge lead from the starter end (could have used it, this cable normally goes from alternator to battery) and used the e21 bolt. I even reused the red e24 wire from the alternator to the positive terminal.
Hopefully the picture will attach here.
