Just wondering  if the rear suspension, namely the swing arms and the crossmember swap between the coupe & Bavaria ? Also how about the gas tank ? Enclosed are a few photos just so you don’t think I’m destroying a nice Bavaria for my coupe. ~ John Buchtenkirch

No swap on gas tank (filler tube in back of car not on side) or swing arms and crossmember.Front suspension swaps tho.

THANKS GUYS :-D, that is good to know but kinda surprising, you wouldn’t think BMW would have gone thru the trouble to have different swing arms for the 2 cars. And yes the only car that BMW ever gave a name to is a real rust bucket in this case. Rolled the car out of my garage and swept up 3 dust pans of rust & Bondo fragments from the floor. The guy I bought it from told me it was actually restorable  <BIGEST GRIN>. It took me about 3 minutes to convince him otherwise & cut his price in half. ~ John Buchtenkirch

None of the rear suspension pieces are interchangeable. The E9 rear track is quite a bit narrower than the E3. The E9 rear suspension was based on the NK sedans and the E3 (successor to the NKs) was a new design for a larger car.

Years ago, I knew a kid who had an E3 who for some forgotten reason put E9 swing arms in his E3. It looked pretty strange with the narrower rear track. I suspect the handling was pretty strange too.

Snakes in a Car

I was given a similar condition Bavaria parts car when I was restoring my e9. Got a number of serviceable parts from it. But when dismantling it, I found numerous snake skins inside the heater box. Guess a family of field snakes had been living there.... Good thing it was from a Northern state.
