hello
I bought a set of bbs rs 211 16x8 for my e9
I am restoring them
I wonder about the tire size
I was thinking of fitting 205 55 16 at the front and 225 50 16 at the rear
What do you think ?

i think you have bbs rs 021. not 211. 211 is a true 17" wheel. the 021 is a 16 x 8 w/ et 11 and has 2" lips and 5.5" barrels. the typical coupe wheel is the 005 and 006 - both have 1.5" lips - the fronts have 5" barrels and the rears have 6" barrels. so these wheels will stick out 1/2" closer to the fender lip. you will catch the tire on the fender lip on the fronts. here is a link to the FAQ on tires - pay attention to post 5 in the thread for BBS RS specs. post 3 in the thread talk about tire sizes for 16" wheels.

by the way, you can probably change the outer lips to 1 1/2" and use them all around with the 5.5" barrels. the tire may rub the front strut. remember, the wheels will fit, its the rubber that probably won't

these are indeed rs 211 you can zoom in on the center of the rim it is visible

I think you'll be fine with 205s on the front.

Plenty of room on the rear.
when I got the rims they were mounted on an e36 and the tires were 205 55 16 on the 4
I did a test on my e9 and they went up quite well but as the front is wider than the rear on the e9 that's why I wonder about 225 50 16 for the rear

according to the BBS RS list, the 211 has the same spec as the 021. its bolt spacing is 5 x 120, the offset is et11, the diameter is 16", the lips are 2" and the barrels are 5.5" ... the CB is 72.5.

here is a drawing that shows what Chris is describing. the typically used wheels on the e9 is the rs 005. it is a 7" wheel with an offset of et-11. the wheels you have are 1" wider with the same offset. what this means is the wheel will be 1/2" wider in each direction from the wheel centerline. since we know that the 205/55-16 tire rubs on fender lips with the et-11 / 7" wheel ... the probability of the 8" wheel + same size tire rubbing on the fender lip is even higher. in addition, the recommended rim width for the 205/55-16 is 5.5" to 7.5".

I understand so my rims are more on the outside than they should be I have to pay attention to the size of the tires I mount on the back
if I mount tires that are too wide it is possible that it touches the wing
Et24 moves wheels towards inside of wheel well so et11 will move wheels outwards towards fender lip by 1/2”

What is the offset, front need to be et11, rear et24.

You want the fronts ET11 at 7” wide not 8” wide. Ideally, you want the 8” fronts at around ET15 or so for a 8x16” wheel. Even then it may rub both the strut and the fender.

Agreed with everything you said, with one clarification. You typed it both ways. A BBS RS005 is ET11 not ET-11. All non-motorsport / non-stanced BMW wheels have a positive offset.

I find most wheel diagrams confusing. This short article explains the difference between negative and positive offset for anyone interested.

I took some pics of the rim front and rear considering the width I think the tires will be 205 55 everywhere
at the front it is close to the shock absorber and it protrudes a little from the wing, it is true that 7 "would have been perfect..
I think that when the car is on the ground it will be less visible

the back looks ok
205 55 tires will do

you'll be good.

Check this thread out:

Barry has 8"'s in the front, but with a 5" barrel, meaning he has even MORE (1/2") "poke" on the outside than what you'd have.

you are correct - i have a tendency to put dashes in to separate the letter from the number ... not meaning to think of it as a -11 ... just more readable as et 11. my bad. thanks for clarifying to other people.
