Has anyone mounted a Becker Mexico 7948 'retro' or Europa 'retro'?
If so, where did you get it and what is your experience with it?
Many thanks.

I mounted a Becker Europa II stereo that I pulled out of a Bavaria that I parted. This radio has a small amplifier. You can buy a DIN plug (can't remember how many pins), which fits into the same input that would have been used for the aux. tape player, and then plug your iPod / iPhone into the radio via this cord, which is very cool. And, concealing the wire in the glovebox is easy.

I didn't have the radio restored, but probably should, so I'm not sure what this may have to do with the sound quality. It could never be mistaken for a modern car with a good factory radio, but it's really not as bad as I thought it was going to be, and reminds me of the car audio I remember as a kid. I'm also convinced I could probably replace the small amp that the radio uses with something modern, and if running with an iPod, the potential for it to actually sound good is probably there. As it sits right now, it's very analog and mushy, but is stereo with a fader, so it adds to the character of the whole experience.

Becker vs. Blaupunkt

One thing I've noticed when comparing the vintage Becker radios vs. the Blaupunkt radios from the same time period is that the Blaupunkts receive stations and sound much better than the Beckers. I think the Becker radios look cooler, but the Blaupunkts actually work better. This is comparing the Becker Europa mono radio vs. the Blaupunkt Frankfurt mono from around 1972-73. And also comparing a Becker Europa II Stereo model vs. a Blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo model both from 1974.

Most of the vintage radios that I own, I purchased off of e-bay from Germany. I've also purchased a couple from Koenigs Klassik mentioned above.

I have a Becker casette player that plugs into a Becker radio if anyone is interested.

The Blaupunkt Berlin is my favorite. The one in my CS is just a little newer than it should be, but I recently purchased another one of the right vintage.

Glad you found one. If it is installed, please post some photos and observations on it's operational qualities.
