I have the early 80's style bell housing used in conjunction with my getrag 5 spd OD. There are two ports on the lower section (~7 o'clock position) which appear to be for VR or Hall sensors. Does anyone know what specific sensor fits here? I have not been able to find anything in the mobile traditions part's sheets. Also what exactly is on the flywheel that the sensor would be picking up? the small recessed ball bearing? Or does one need to embed a small magnet? The holes seem to be aimed at the portion of the flywheel forward of the starter teeth.

Thanks,

The Motronic 1.0 system reads crank position from the bellhousing. The later system reads off the harmonic balancer.

A small tab of metal, 1/4" x 3/8" sticks out from the flywheel. Commonly referred to as a pin. Yes, there have been reports of the pin comming loose.

Two sensors:

a. Speed- Start, no start.
b. Crank- Spark

If A happens, you're stuck. If B happens "limp" mode home by ecu.

Thanks for the info.

I am using the front motronic 1.3 60-2 wheel and VR sensor along with cam a sensor for the megasquirt setup. The interest in the bell housing sensor relates to finding a way to pick up TDC signals to hook up to an oscilloscope to provide a reference for a spark plug pressure sensor - an idea for tuning spark advance.
