My 3.0CSi is still running its original fuel pump. As part of readying the car for the 1600 mile round trip to The Vintage this year, I'm thinking that, at least, I want a spare with me. I see posts about people using the later-style pump, part number 16 14 1 179 232, that seems to be used on everything from L-Jet E12s through Motronic cars. Bavauto sells it as part number GFP263. Other than a little mechanical and electrical adaptation, are folks happy with it? Any other recommendations?

Why set yourself up to lay under a car replacing a pump when you can use the 318i pump in the tank? The csi pump is hard to pay for and the later 1980's pump while cheap doesn't fit readily. Check autohausaz for the exterior pump at 75 bucks and get the interior pump from a friend here for the same price.
