The 1967-76 BMW Market Update has some great narratives about our coupes, particularly how and why they are valued as they are. Typicaly absent from the Barrett-Jackson circus/phenomena because coupes were nearly always modified after import, and therefore numbers matching, factory-correct "was never a large part of the vintage BMW market".

Further the best cars typically never make it to auction, ebay or otherwise, and totally dismissing the used car element that sells coupes.... the article notes that the market is so small (non-dexistent) for decent cars, word of mouth sales occur most often. Well done cars easily bring $25 to $30k, notes Carl Nelson.

I've been following the coupe market now for about 5 years, after 20 years with a 2002, the last two as a coupe owner. By no means an expert, but if I didn't have the car I have now, there are cars I'd buy without hesitation...Paul Cain's & Merdad's CSI's, Murray's 2800 Bluemax, Joe Sav's CS, the East Coast Coupester offerings and Coupeking offspring...

Of course any cars featured on the e9 board rate consideration...but no way would I buy a stray coupe unless I was prepared for the long haul of tedious discovery and restoration. As such, I think Carl's range of $25 to $30 range is a tad low for buyers who want just want to drive the car, rather than re-create it....
