Hopefully no one else made the mistake of attending Bimmerfest 2017. What a waste of a trip. It barely had a quarter of the attendees and cars compared to when it used to be at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The classic BMW corral parking which had about 50 spots reserved only has six cars in total and the special area reserved for the E30 M3 which was bout 25 spots only had one M3 there. Very few booths compared to Rose Bowl, 95% of the booths were wheel manufacturers and 99% of the cars displayed at the booths were the new M3 over and over and over again. Beyond Boring. Only one barn find BMW M1 which was really cool. I went Sunday, hoping Saturday was a bit better but I doubt it.

Only two cars worth taking a photo of.

Saturday had many, many more cars overall and in the corrals. I judged the Classic BMW class. This is not my kind of event as it is all about Tuners, carbon fiber and faux CF, huge stereos and 20" wheels. It is however where our next generation is headed apparently and the CCA wants to attract them as members. We will have a Tuner class and Legends and O'fest for the first time too.

Chris, I don't mind the Tuners but what I did mind is the lack of variety. Every booth was pushing wheels which I would not be surprised if all are manufactured by the same Chinese company and all the booths had identical M3's with different paint schemes as display cars. It would have been much more appropriate if the show was called 2017M3Fest. This same show a couple of years ago at the Rose Bowl was just so different and attracted so many more cars and attendees. Their new direction with change of location and lack of variety seems to have hurt them quite a bit.

That M1 is hammered. He needs to get a little closer to the detailing booth :(

The story with the M1 is it was found about 30 years ago in a barn in Oklahoma I think he said and the owner decided to keep it just the way he found it, yes he found it 30 years ago and has kept it as found all these years. The tires were even the originals that were on the car when it left the factory.

Again, this is not my kind of event, but on Saturday it was jammed with cars and people and it was 95 degrees too! They must be doing well as there is an east coast equivalent. The last good one for me was at the Santa Barbara Polo Grounds.
