BMW 3.0 CSi - Sunroof restoration

Hello e9 forum,

I have a question to you. I have a BMW 3.0 CSi with an sunroof. According an early taxation report the sunroof was operated manually. One of the previous owners rebuild the sunroof to electrical operated.
you can see the pictures.

my question to you is: is the steel framework originally BMW? I have seen pictures on the internet where the steel framework has a straight edge. In my car the framework is in a curve?

maybe you can share some pictures of an original manually operated sunroof.

I want to rebuild it original manually.

Unless I'm mistaken, the original sunroofs were made by Golde, not BMW. Similar units were installed on Porsches and Volvos of the era.

On cars with electric sunroofs, the cables run to the rear of the car, there is a zipper in the headliner, and the motor assembly is behind that zipper, near the rear window. The manual sunroofs had the crank in the front so the cabling is completely different. While it is possible to convert a manual to electric by getting the auto-style tracks (@JetDexter did this to his CSE using Porsche parts), I've never seen a conversion where the motor is placed up front.

many thanks for your explanation and the photos. For me it’s clear that my car isn’t original delivered whit a electrical sunroof.
The previous owner put an electrical motor in the front. They cut through the steel and the front head lining .
still wondering if this curved edge is original. The car is a early 1973 and original delivered in Switzerland.

I would ensure that you have( or can source) all the Golde parts for the manual sunroof before launching into this as the setup is quite different. Frankly, if there are no issues with the electric setup I would be inclined to stick with that but good luck either way.

Hello e9 members,

today I discovered that my sunroof is exact the same as the ones used in the BMW NK 1500, 1600, 1800 and 2000. So my conclusion is that one of the previous owner let build a sunroof in the car.
