BMW 3.0 CSL at UK Auction

Csl

Too bad there aren't more pictures. Tired? I think it looks exhausted!:-D

When rust has permeated the nose over the grill like that, I can't imagine what the rest looks like. Hey, its a CSL though, right? so I guess it's worth restoring.

I'd buy it and use it as a flower bed, just to have the bragging rights to own a CSL.

EDIT: MOST IMPORTANTLY - Somebody should add VIN#2285404 to the new registry as a RHD Golf CSL residing in UK.
I'd do it, but it should probably be up to Admin to add cars that are not owned by the publisher.

final price

I called into the auction today and the car sold for £12,500, not including the comission for selling it at aution which I think is 15% of the final price. Didn't expect it to go for that,it will be interesting to see if it is up for sale when it is restored or if the buyer will keep it.

I think that is ok money myself. Sure it needs a total, but I ask this question...What is teh point in buying one that is 70 to 80 % right.

Unless it is 95 % right, you will replace or rebuild each of those pieces anyway until satisfied, I have been there and can categorically say that to rebuild a car from scratch is cheaper than slowly doing up a car where you eventually replace everything anyway.

I am worried about the cost of bodywork that a lot of you guys pay in the Uk and the Americas. I think that it may sometimes be cheaper to ship a car here to get the bodywork done, then send it to the USA for fitout where there is more parts. We have some genuine guns here and after living and working in the UK and USA, and getting cars rebuilt , I think it is a factor of 2 or maybe 3 in terms of costs.

It sounds crazy, but our dry weather here seems to mean that most panel shops can get more done that a lot of the UK places etc. Just some food for thought.

But the car in question was shown on another site and was indeed sad, but IT IS one of only 500 RHD and I should have gotten better organized to buy the thing and ship it here, sight unseen. One RHD CLs sold here for 90,000 AUD(80 odd USD) and another for $75,000 AUD ( 70K odd US). So there is some margin it .

Cheers for wading through my sour grapes.

I bought an Evo II E30 M3 in similar condition from the UK and although it semed like the right thing to do. I have had the car now for almost 2 years and it is still not on the road.

The expense is out of controll

Register it.

As long as someone registers it...
I registered 4 cars that were parted out and the rest crushed by the Coupe King....

posting VINs of crushed cars

I think we need to be very careful posting information about cars that are not ours regardless if they are crushed or not. It just does not seem right.

what else is new... in restoring cars>> Try this below.

RULE #2 Double your timeline and budget and cut your expectations in half.

A realistic approach??

Cheers

That's about right but I also add ten percent to that doubled figure (time and expense) just to make sure I can keep the skin on my teeth!

lol!

As long as we don't give out specific personal information as to the current or past owners (without their permission) that might be allright...Registry developers and admin's here should develop a policy to protect the overly zealous attempts to make the information public from violating the privacy issues some people take quite seriously, as TodB wisely points out.

If the information was extracted from public sources, and there are no copyright issues, why should there be any concern?

Wasn't this bucket on ebay last year with trash piled on top of it?

It's public information. If you post on the internet it is the same as posting in the newspaper. Public sales are just that.

What privacy issues are violated? if the information is made available for public consumption it is public. As far as I know no one is posting name and addresses of ebay auctions.

Csl for sale

Just to keep you updated, the buyer of the car did not come up with the money so it is back up again. Expected sale price is 8000 pounds.
