BMW ad in Wall Street Journal

BMW is embarrassed to put a coupe among the overpriced Bangalized stuff(I am being politic here) they sell today.

Talked to a service rep at a BMW dealership when I went to look at a '76 2002 they had with 34,000. The one(1) series has had really disappointing sales. I said wrong price point. He said if BMW had priced it at $25k they would have seen Honda buyers in the showroom for the first time. Interesting.

BMW only elected to bring the 1 series coupe to the US market. In Europe, you see the 1 series in 3 and 5 door touring models. If they had brought over the 1 series 5 door touring model with the turbo diesel, I would be in the showroom. Story I heard was that BMW didn't want to infringe on the Mini sales market. Sorry, I don't want a FWD car. Living in SoCal, 3 series BMW's are a dime a dozen and you hardly ever see a 1 series car. IMHO, BMW missed the boat on the 1 series in the US market. They priced it too high, when for a little more, you can have a 3 series. They should have brought over the 1 series touring models. I've seen them when I worked in Stuttgart in 2008 and I liked them a lot.
