I called the local BMW Parts Dept. to see about getting one of the factory BMW batteries for my car. Figured that maybe the 3 series battery would fit. They are white with a BMW emblem and should look good in the engine compartment. Didn't go too well. The response from the tech was "What's an E9?" I wanted to respond that it is the car that is plastered all over the walls of the service department in various incarnations in order to imbue a sense of history to the marque, but figured it might be easier to just hang up.

You're better off without a dealer battery. Made by Exide now and they don't seem to last like they used to.

Every so often I'll pull into the BMW dealer on a Sat am to look at the new cars and they all pour out to look at the alien landing!

 I do the same thing at my dealer when I stop in for parts. Drive right into the service drive thru and park it. Everybody comes out and gawks. I've never had a "park outside for parts department, buddy". I do the same thing with my '69 Roadster at the Nissan dealer, loads of laughs!
