On my way into work this morning I saw what was a strange looking camper van coming towards me - but when it got closer, what caught my eye was the grill and badge -- BMW!?
I didn't have a camera handy, but a quick google search came up with something similar - see attachment - where someone was asking the same thing but got no answers. The one I saw had the same low, flat look with large windshields but had twin grills (more squared-off, 1980 BMW-like).

So, two obvious theories: either BMW made or supplied motors to a camper company or some segment of the camping community thinks that its funny to badge their campers as a BMW. btw, the plate did say "BMW" -and I thought - "TDI" but I couldn't make out that part fast enough. They were NH plates so I'm hoping that I'll come across it again.

Anybody know what is going on?

BMW did supply engines to a motor home manufacturer several years ago. I am pretty sure it was a diesel engine. That picture looks like the one. I don't think they had the BMW badge on them originally but I could be mistaken on that.

Vixen Motorhomes

Used the BMW turbo diesel. Short as in height to fit in a standard garage.

Thanks for the replies - I found some photos of Vixen RVs and that is definitely the one. Looks like they get great mileage. If you poke around long enough there are some that have Roundels on their noses - but I didn't see any photos of ones with BMW grills.

Small RV with BMW diesel

For Heavens sake--there was one of those For Sale just a long block away from my house for months that was wearing the Roundel on its nose--had intended to stop and have a look but didn't--now gone!
