Hi All....

I've got a complete 91 535i for a B35 engine swap into my 73 and currently I am trying to remove the engine wiring harness.

what is the best way to get this out without cutting something that i shouldn't or something i will be needing. is there a process that illustrates how to get the harness out, how to separate it from the rest of the harness, and which components to use for the swap.

hopefully someone can point me in the right direction...

TLDR: I'm looking for "here's how you get the harness out" and "this is how you prepare the harness for the engine swap"

You should be able to pull out the connector from engine to ECU, remove the diagnostic port (round plug) in the bay and any connections on the engine if you choose, but that's about it. I'm not sure where the ECU actually is in the 5er, but you should be able to remove the grommet at the firewall if need be and fish the connector out that way if it is in the glovebox. Don't cut anything and follow wires to the end, you should be able to get it out.

great ... thanks im going to get this car gutted today. so hopefully no more surprises.... the PO replaced the clutch, but never bolted the transmission to the cross-member. crazy.
