I plan to swap my 3.0 cs 5-speed engine to a m30b35. Does the m30b35 engine have to be a manual or can can I use a m30b35 from an automatic donor.

Thanks..

You have a 5 speed now- you already have the correct flywheel.

Call my picker Bao- he pulls engines for me in the Bay Area.
Ask him about the car in Moss Landing if the engine is still there and ask him about the M30b35 engine in the back of his truck right now. It’s 1500.00 and it’s available.
He can pick you a harness and a computer too.

One mechanic told me that engines from automatics are great because it is hard to abuse them in terms of driving them hard and revving.

Downside is then you need to check for cam wear due to the oil pressure being insufficient at low revs on the front and back lobes.

Good point. My mechanic was opining on an engine for a 4 cylinder E36...
