BMW factory body refinishing guide

I guess it’s kinda cool because BMW printed it but if it’s over 20 years old I doubt  it’s even very relevant today. The paint companies have constantly been coming out with new, better and unfortunately more expensive products. I haven’t done any spray painting for over 25 years so I’m a total dinosaur in the eyes of today’s painters. Most of the materials I used back in the day aren’t even available anymore and now water based paints are being phased in. The pace of change has picked up dramatically in the world of auto body so I just have to wonder  about that book. ~ John Buchtenkirch

What we have here gentleman is the Dead Sea Scrolls. Interesting, no masks, coveralls,
latex gloves but lots of toxic fumes and dealy chemicals.
Thank you OSHA. Well, sometimes.

factory procedures

Here I been cussing and fussing everytime I find aluminum tape under a hole covered with bondo ( knifing) and BMW sanctioned it! Racka fraka... mig, tig, slap, file, lead, repeat.. Oh well even Pebble Beach restorers use bondo... frame rails, etc.

We should start a .... you just might be a BMW factory trained mechanic....

if you used bondo to cover up a rust hole on a UNIBODY.

if you had to strap two engineers in the back of a 530i so they could redesign future a/c while travelling across west Texas in the middle of summer with the back windows disabled.( true story)

if you think it's hugely entertaining to get to the starter bolts without takeing the freaking induction off...

fixing your clock while positioning yourself in every sex position known to the eastern world....during Octoberfest!
