The annual Italian Car Day at the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation is always a great event. Of course plenty of Ferraris, Lamborghinis and lots of gold chains.

The selection of Italian motorbikes are always popular, and then the Alfas, Lancias, Fiats, De Tomaso (with American power).. but my favorite Italian drive are the Maseratis, any Maserati.

The Aston Martin by Zagato was impressive, but I was surprised to see a BMW at the Italian car day... of course the M1 was designed by Giugiaro. This M1 was in fantastic condition, wow.

hi duane,
do you know if this is the same one that is in the current hemmings sports and exotic? that one resides in brookline somewhere and in the magazine looked very nice.

Yes that seems to be the very same car, given there was a copy of the magazine sitting in the rear cargo area (a small storage space behind the mid-engine config).

Reflections on the M-1

I was the fortunate owner of the #199 M-1 in White--in which I managed 52,000 miles of seat time in that beauty. Trips to Monterey, driving the Big Sur, the Ortega Highway and other challenging roads were shere joy in the doing.

In 1996 I met Giugiaro, Sr and Jr at Concorso Italiano in Monterey and stated that I had been a fortunate owner of one--Sr replied that he had never ridden in one--how sad is that!

Significant business changes brought about by Congress turning its back--what's new--by removing and penalizing instead of continuing incentives under then section 174 of the Tax Code that fostered new product innovation and emerging new technology driven product development brought an end to a promising period in our country. That change in the Code--possibly one of the most costly, short sighted ever enacted caught me in a real bind as I was completely involved as a Principal financially invested and committed to five such promising developments. It became necessary to change my entire lifestyle including finding a new home for my M-1 after 5 years of FUN!!

Reflecting--what a kick to have driven it--so often!!
