I recently acquired a 1985 635csi.
The 5 sp in it is different than the one in my e9.
Shift pattern in the e9 is reverse is to the far right and down.
The shift pattern in the 635 is far, far left and up.

I have mentioned the slop in the shift and will be addressing that soon. No grinding or abnormal sounds during motion or shifting.

I would also assume that there is a different style/name short shifter for the difference in shift pattern???
Maybe not, since you are just moving the ball a different direction.

I know that ICC makes very good shifters, but I am poor and not able to spend that kind of money.
Recommendations? <$100
Can't be a lot of force/effort in the shift, so wife can use. It is to become our daily driver.

Suggestions ...hints...

I plan on dropping the d-shaft for the removal and repair, just to make it easier on this old man.

I am on the bigcoupe site but I trust the people here and their knowledge.

No BMW has ever had reverse to the right and down. Unless you're mistaken, someone has adapted some non-bmw transmission into your car.

Perhaps you mean that 1st gear is in a different location? In that case one of them is a close ratio "dogleg" transmission (1st gear down) and the other is a standard overdrive (1st gear up). Reverse is left and up on both of them.
