I’m doing the body work and I’ve removed the doors, and need to make up some bars for the door pillars is it best to weld them straight onto door pillars or use the door hanger holes and catch and bolt to them?

I think everyone has their own method! I welded between pillars and down to the inner sill although I was cutting out floors and sills. How far are you going with the bodywork?

I think both will work. Welding is stronger. Bolting gives you the possibilty to take em out and reinstall. Mind you that the B-pillar is quite weak.
You might want to consider tying the a pillars to the bolt holes of the seat belt in the rear decklid & on the rear wheel well arch. There are already 4 big bolt holes in the rear, making that easier.

I'm replacing floor pans outer sills,
then see how far the rust has gone,
IE: bottom A pillar and b pillar intermediate sills.
you know the further you dig the deeper you go!

If you need reinforcement, I’d weld it in, front to back and side to side, keeping the door aperture clear. If you bolt in using the door hinges and lock area that scuppers your ability to trial fit the door to keep an eye on the door gaps/alignment. Just my 2p.

Good call I’d not thought about pre fitting the doors during the work.

Ha neither did I! And its eating me....It's a really good advice. I now have to finish my sills and quarter fenders, before being able to take my bracing out, before being able to fit my doors, before being able to tackle my front fenders...
