Boot (trunk) lock issue

My boot lock isn't functioning correctly.
The key turns in the barrel and turns the cam on the back of it from the 9 oclock postion to the 6 o clock position. However in either postion the button can be pushed in and the cam hits the bar on the lock mechanism - opening the boot

I seem to remember that once locked it's not possible to push the button to open the boot. Mine doesn't. Given that, is the barrel likely to be the issue ?

hi C.
the button always pushes the cam
if the barrel allows the cam to change its position 45 degrees, the barrel is ok

you are facing a simple mechanical adjustment of the lever/bar, look at it carefully and deduct where to bend it a bit, and you will be done

the other possibility is that by any odd cause you are being able to turn and position the whole barrel incorrectly, i mean, i do not remember well, but there is a chance of turning the internal cam, so check its position first using the logic

Hey Christopher,
I repaired my boot lock just a while ago with a similar problem.
The button can be pushed in regardless whether its in the lock or unlock position. When its in 'locked' position, from memory when the cam is horizontal (3 o'clock) position, it should not be in contact with the 'bar' in the lock mechanism, hence 'bar' will not be pushed and the boot will remain lock.

To fix your problem, which I suspect is because the cam is able to push onto the bar regardless what position its in, you can either try to bend the bar down slightly which would require a fair bit of force, or I opted to file it down just by 2-3mm hence the upper edge will just miss the cam from the barrel.

Hope all these makes sense ;)

Thanks DeQuincey & Gavin for the advice. That makes sense. Will take another look this weekend and hope to solve this issue

Thanks Luis

These images are really helpful. my barrell and lock mechanism (from memory) don't have that same clearance, which is where the problem lies

I had the back panel replaced by the body shop last year (replacement panel from Walloth & Nesch). It may be that the hole for the lock isn't exactly correct in their panel, which would give me this issue of the cam never clearing the mechanism. I'll have to take good look when i'm back with the car this weekend, but if that is the case i guess the remedy would be filing the bar back to accomodate this.
