Hi - probably a problem that a lot of us have but have learnt to ignore it over the years - I am still trying.
My speedo likes to bounce around at low speed - needle dances between 0 and 30mph but once you load up the engine and above 30mph it is very stable
Replaced a broken cable recently and hoped it would rectify - but no improvement- what is the most likely cause - is it a cable seating problem either end or a tired old speedometer
Any help appreciated

I recently swapped my speedo cable and initially had the same problem as you describe - something which was never a problem before the cable swap.

In fact I raised the rear wheels of my E9 over the ground and 'drove' the car in stationary mode just to find out what was causing the bounce at low speeds. It turned out that the 'bounciness' was directly influenced by the path of the cable just behind the speedo. By changing the cable position behind the instrument cluster, I was able to directly influence how much the needle bounced. It is absolutely possible to position the cable in such a way that the needle does not bounce - or certainly hardly at all.

Hope this helps

I had a similar problem with my 280sl. It turned out that when I installed the cable the rotating part inside did not sit well into the speedometer...or in my case into the transmission side. So, I removed it and re-installed it again untill the speedometer no longer "jumped" . This has happened to me more than once when I have taken the cable out to clean it or replace it.
