Time to do an all corner brake job on the daily drivers....2002 E39 and 2000 V70/XC. Live in Canada so shipping the 160 lbs of stuff has to be considered. The options are mind boggling as to solid, slotted, cross-drilled and slotted rotors. As well as pad material....All advise and observations are welcome....TIA

I wouldn't bother with the slotted or cross drilled Alan. Get seal kits for all the calipers. You might want to consider DOT approved stainless hoses. Ireland sells them for the E9. I found they gave very good feel on my E46 Wagon. I stick to BMW for pads on my cars.

On my E38's (both the stock 2001 and the highly modified 1995) - I have Akebono Ceramic and have had great success with them.

I use PBR/Axxis/whatever they are now... Deluxe on the 'old' cars. When I was in CA - I used to use Metalmaster - but when I moved to WA, I found they were not very good cold. I had to stop kind of aggressively one time with stone cold brakes one time near my house and I reall had to step on it to get any real bite (so I switched to Deluxe ~25 years back).

The PO of my 1995 E38 tried 3 or 4 different pads till he settled on the Akenbono's. Quiet - smooth - good on dust.
The Akebono's are also very nice on rotors. The aftermarket setup on the 95 went 80k on pads and rotors. :)

Just my 02 cents.

Oh - and I'd go stock on rotors/calipers... and I second the stainless hose recommendation.

Hi Alan, some early morning brake porn for you - http://www.massivebrakes.com/brake-systems.php - you did post in off topic. Also I used "premium semi metallic" that IE sells on the 76 '02 - no name I can recall but probably Axxis.

No the exhaust system is not finished and yes I have a small goose egg where I stood up under the wrong place.

The prices are porn....should outlawed.....big brakes = cost of car. Talked to one of my local guys as he can get me what I need sans freight....figuring $100 per corner. Good to have friends....
