Brand new cylinder head casting. I have 2 of these and would like $850 each. Located in San Diego, shipping if desired is at the buyer’s expense.

is that a part number?

It’s a casting number. I would call it a 784.9 head. I believe that most B34’s had a 358 head. That is what mine was, and if you google the 358 head you will get a lot more hits.

Suspicion here is that the 784.9 head may be a thermal reactor failure replacement head.

The shape of the intake port, the presence of deep small dimples, the later coolant passages, the casting of “m30” in the valve tray all indicate a 1980’s production design.
The later B35 head has different intake port design, B35 in casting, big dimples except for 1988.
Not a m106 head because it doesn’t say Turbo
Not a m102 head because the studs for the additional air slide valve on those go left to right.
Would nice to see the date casting but in keep it is always possible to have a late casting for an early design.

I think it says ‘85.

I'll need to have the valve guides and valve stem seals redone on my '74 and also plan to add a Dbilas 282 cam while I am at it. Based on the above discussions, this head should work fine for that application. I also have some Euro 9.5/1 pistons that I would like to add down the road (see pics). Does anyone know of any clearance problems with those pistons and this head? Thanks

Oh, I also found this interesting post about the same head:

My assumption would be no. My CSI had the 358 head which would be the next generation of the head FS. No clearance issues with the piano tops. Granted I never drove the car but the valves never kissed the pistons, and the motor was clearly operated with the head installed.

Remember- 4 different shapes of intake gaskets for the m30 engine.
Make sure you assemble with correct gasket.

Has anybody heard from @Benspector since his last post? I sent a couple of PMs about payment/shipping but have heard nothing.

Just to show what it does when you choose the wrong one: I am disassembling my carbs, and noted this strange situation on the intake manifold.

In the pic you can see that the gasket does not cover the holes adequately.
As the manifold ( I think...)operates at a lower than atmospheric pressure, i think this must have ment that air was sucked in through 6 bolt holes.

At idle that could be very confounding.
you could ask what were they thinking but you know they weren’t thinking at all…
when matching an early manifold to a later head - you have to fill those recesses.
