Hi, here are the questions for those of you that had a chance to see brand new e9's back then in the seventies.

Was the wood trim gloss or a little bit mat and was the engine compartment / underbody painted black or in car colors?

Slowly progressing with restoration I'm preparing needed info. Same was with the engine, never new that for e24 new engine had black (glossy) bottom until I had a chance to get a new 2.8L m30 for my car :)

Wood finish

Although I am old enough to see new coupe, back in the day, I didn't see one except for pictures in magazines back then. But I have a friend who bought a NOS wood dash from ebay.de, that never saw the sunshine, and the finish is definitely, slightly matte. Colour is a rich, dark brown, with a hint of red mahogany (but it is, of course, Italian or French walnut veneer). Sorry I cannot help with the under-carriage color, but the engine compartment was car colour. Dave V. in NC

The wood trim on E9s was as Dave V describes, not shiny glossy. On the 2000CSs the clear was shiny and seemed to be a much heavier coating.

The engine compartments were body color.

Wood finish and inside engine comp't++

BLUMAX has original wood--it is a soft matte finish and is of a lighter color than described by Dave in NC--perhaps English Walnut

Engine compartment surfaces are body color down to sub-frame tops

All underhood areas and underside of trunk (boot) lid as well as most inner trunk surfaces were also painted body color. Gas tank was matt black--same as metal panel beneath hood (bonnet) covering fan assembly/housing to provide support and added strength between firewall and lower windshield (windscreen) base.
