Camping equipment packed?

I am hoping this is PhotoShop and the E9 is not really towing. The engine is strong enough but I think the trunk will get all stretched out...or torn off

I was thinking the same thing!

I once watched someone try to use the front tow hooks to pull an e9 out of the snow and both hooks came unbent. A winch attached to the tow hook or eye on the rear of the car caused a huge hunk of sheet metal attached to the tow eye to break from the car. I did not know whether to laugh or cry - even though it was not my car. Maybe the trailer in the pictures is affixed directly to the engine, since, as you say, the engine is strong enough!

Don't be fooled , those caravans have a cummins 14 litre diesel engine driving a rockwell axle pushing the E9 all controlled by remote.
Paul

I suspect that tow packages are no longer available for the E9. Shall we see if there is enough interest to have a custom kit produced?

E-9 towing experiences

Blumax's original owner had a factory tow hook securely mounted on the car for towing his small sailboat--a sabat as I recall. When I bought the car from him in 1972 I left it in place to protect the rear bumper from careless parkers--it worked and blumax still wears his original rear bumper having never been re-chromed.

On one occasion I put the tow hook to good use--story follows:
My younger son's first car was an early small backlight yellow and orange VW that had the side arm turn indicators that wagged to alert drivers--it had been owned by the son of the then largest VW and Porsche Dealer in SoCal-Chick Iversons in Newport Beach--but the son had died in another car accident when about 18 years of age. His VW became Jeff's first car at age 16--briefly--on its maiden trip to go surfing in Santa Barabara with two buddies on board the car engine gave up off the 405 and Harbor freeways in Harbor City CA--about 35 miles above Corona del Mar where we lived. Our family station wagon was not equipped for towing so blumax was called into service for retrieval of the VW--so in the Summer of 1972 using a nylon line from a sail boat we carefully attached one to the other and travelled back roads from there to home base without incident--yours truly driving blumax with son steering and braking the VW.

So Stan--do rest assured that the E-9 when fitted correctly as shown can and has served honorably as a tow mule when called upon.

If Blumax and its owner tried that today there would be 50 lawyers descending on them in a minute!

Good to hear the story Murray and thanks Orangener for the photos- they really do look like they could be out of a magazine article or an advertisement.
