my father has been telling me for years that an old mechanic who fixes old (ie antiquated) machinery at his work from time to time has an old race car in his shed. the guy has an overgrown garden and a bunch of wrecks around his (suburban) yard. the extent of the junk sitting around the yard, and the extent of its overgrownness, cannot be overstated. after hearing this for years i challenged him a couple of years ago and we go to see the old guy.
turns out he has (and still has) the bugatti type 57 isle of man TT car (i think from '34) that he bought in the mid 50s and raced a couple of times here in oz before putting it away. he's been tinkering on iot for 50 years and plams to sell "for his retirement". it hasn't run for some 50 years though he's getting ver close now i understand. i have his permission to someday write an article about the history of the car and his ownership and have a set of photos from a couple of years agio when i first visited. the photos are worth a thousand words!
