Going on a trip leaving April 29th. Starting in Frankfurt airport. I'll only have a few days to do something pleasurable with a car, visit some friends in Belgium then get back on a plane and carry on to Malawi.

Anyone know of a must see museum, road or attraction near Frankfurt or heading West?
I'd like to rent a Boxster, but the price is multiple times higher than a regular car.

Tia.

I am curious as well, I am going to Germany in June and will also be asking for advice.

I was in Frankfurt last September for Automechanika.

I spent a day at the Nurburgring and drove the Nordschleife. Do not use your rental car on the track, since all rental companies (except maybe Sixt) have clauses about using their cars on private toll roads. I rented a Swift from www.rent4ring.com and had a blast!

I also recommend visiting Klassiksradt in Frankfurt. www.klassikstadt.com
It’s a classic car all in one facility. Classic car sales, restoration, a McLaren dealership, restaurant, car memorabilia shops and storage for customers cars all in one old factory that is open to the public. Best of all its free to visit and walk through. Locals store their classic cars here and take them out when they want. I was sitting outside at the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and watched a guy show up in a bright yellow Ferrari Daytona, drop his coat and driving gloves off at his Audi sitting in the parking lot, then use his pass key to enter the garage and take the lift the second floor for to storage it until next time.

If you’re looking for a good meal in Frankfurt I recommend Zum Storch and Depot 1899.
Hope you have a good trip!

Thanks for the tips John. I have the Ring rental place bookmarked and have seen quite a few hot laps featuring various performance cars on Youtube. That looks pretty wild.
Steve, one thing I can highly recommend from a previous visit was the technology museum in Munich. That and beer drinking!

I plan on lots of bier. Tried to reserve the Ring taxi but I dont think they do it on the day I will be in the vicinity. Somehow I don't see them letting the equivalent of the Griswalds in a rental Volksvagen on der track with me at the helm.

Frankfurt

Dieter Toegel´s CSL shop is 15mn drive from the Frankfurt airport. Mine is 40 miles south of it. The Nürnburgring is on the way to Belgien.

Is this CSL shop a restoration business? Sounds interesting.
Maybe there is a discount Petri steering wheel store somewhere on my route? <G>
