Here´s a new issue for the experts on this board:
my car has just gone through a complete rebuild of the driveline.
Everything is new, restored or otherwise attended to.
The car drives very well, BUT, on acceleration at speeds over 50 MPH, the car pulls slightly, but very noticeably, to the left.
Once I step off the gas pedal, it returns to normal, straigt ahead position.
On braking, the car goes absolutely straight.

Sounds like torque steer. Did you replace the rear subframe mounts/bushings at the rear of the rockers?

I'm guessing you replaced the differential mount, too? Maybe check the diff mount point to the body? They're a bit weak and are known to tear/shear/split. The repair has been covered (with photos) on this board if you search around.

this one's not new

You should carefully review the mount points for the rear end: bushings particularly.

Can you know for certain that your car has never been other than absolutely straight? In your resto, was the front and/or rear windshield out, and if so, did they go back in easily, straight and well?

You could take up the question of body straightness with Carl Nelson, he'd likely be able to scare you a bit, and give mucho food for thought.

The way I think about it, either it's rear bushings, or the car was disassembled far enough that perhaps prior unnoticed or improperly repaired crash damage, or just the general flexiness of the coupe body, manifested itself when you car was put back together.

My mechanic said over the phone that it is most likely due to a misaligned rear axle, which is not adjustable. I will bring the car to him on Monday, and he will measure it carefully with some pertinent equipment.
He has some shims or other clever parts to sort it out.

I cannot understand why this has happened as all parts on the front and rear axle have been checked, repaired, exchanged, upgraded or otherwise attended to.

Cheer up. It is great to own a car that pulls by itself into the passing lane as you accelerate... Very practical.
